Update: State patrol IDs Rochester man killed in Highway 14 crash

A young man from Rochester was killed in a head-on crash Saturday night.

The State Patrol says a Toyota Tundra was traveling eastbound on Highway 14 around 9:30 p.m. when it collided with a Chevrolet Impala heading westbound near the highway's intersection with 50th Avenue Southeast.

The driver of the Impala — Derek Lucas, 20, of Rochester — was killed in the crash. His passenger — David Lucas, 58, of Rochester — was seriously injured.

Both had to be extricated from the sedan by the Rochester Fire Department. The driver of the Tundra — a 58-year-old St. Charles man — did not suffer any apparent injuries.

Gold Cross Ambulance also assisted on scene. According to the state patrol's accident report, the road surface was "wet" at the time.
