Rochester area expected to get hit with 8-10 inches of snow on Tuesday

A strong winter storm will make its way into our area Tuesday morning.

Snow totals of 8 to 10 inches are expected in the Rochester area. The storm will also bring strong wind gusts, creating "brief blizzard like conditions," according to the National Weather Service in La Crosse.

Rochester Public Schools has canceled classes for Tuesday.

Forecasters say snow should begin making its way into southeast Minnesota in the late morning hours of Tuesday and continue through Wednesday morning. The bulk of the snowfall will occur Tuesday.

The combination of snowfall and drifting snow will make travel conditions difficult, especially in open and flat areas. If you must travel, be prepared by keeping extra flashlights, food and water in your vehicle.
