Boldon announces run for Minnesota Senate 25 seat

Boldon announces run for Minnesota Senate 25 seat

First-term DFL state Rep. Liz Boldon announced Thursday her intentions to seek the Minnesota Senate District 25 seat.

“We deserve a leader in the Senate who will fight for the things that matter most to our community — one who believes that a caring economy that works for all Minnesotans, a democracy that honors every person’s dignity, and an inclusive community where all voices are welcomed and valued are possible,” said Boldon. “I am all in to be that leader for District 25.”

The announcement from Boldon came shortly after DFL candidate Sara Flick, who ran for the seat unsuccessfully in 2020, revealed she would be dropping out of the race.

Flick, who is expecting a child soon, said the “district needs someone who can devote themselves fully to winning this race — something that is simply not realistic for me and our family at this time.”

The District 25 seat is now held by Republican state Sen. Dave Senjem.

Senjem, who been in the Senate for 20 years, was last re-elected to the seat in 2020 by a 2.5 point margin. Because of redistricting, however, his seat now encompasses more of DFL-leaning Rochester than it had before. Senjem, 79, has not said whether he plans to run in 2022.

The filing period for the 2022 election season is May 17-31.
