Rochester to resume residential parking enforcement on August 3

Rochester to resume residential parking enforcement on August 3

Beginning one Monday from today, a valid permit will once again be required to park a vehicle in Rochester’s 14 residential parking permit zones.

Enforcement had been temporarily suspended since mid-March as part of an effort to increase parking options for essential workers going to work. The Rochester City Council, however, voted earlier this month to resume regular enforcement on August 3.

According to the city, enforcement had been scheduled to resume in July, but that action was delayed due to a spike in Covid-19 cases locally and to allow public transit an opportunity to plan for an influx of riders.

Once the regular rules take effect, vehicles parked without the proper permit are subject to a citation and fee of $25.

People living in residential permit zones are eligible for an annual on-street parking permit. The cost is $25 plus a one-time application fee of $6. A permit application can be submitted to the City Clerk on the city website, by mail, or in person. Proof of residency and vehicle ownership are required. Temporary permits are also available.

City Hall hours due to Covid-19 are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents are encouraged to apply and pay online or by mail. Face coverings are required at City Hall or any public building.

More information is available on the city website.
