Mayo Clinic announces 2023 pay raises ranging from 6 to 9 percent

Mayo Clinic announces 2023 pay raises ranging from 6 to 9 percent

Nearly 65,000 Mayo Clinic employees are in line for a minimum six percent pay increase beginning next year.

The pay raises for allied health staff, a category that includes nurses to maintenance workers, will take effect on Jan. 4, 2023 and be reflected in employees’ paychecks on Jan. 24, 2023.

While all eligible staff will receive the 6 percent baseline pay bump, employees who earn less than $20 an hour after the increase will see their pay go up by a total of 9 percent; employees who earn $20-21 an hour after the increase will see their pay go up to a total of 8 percent.

The announcement marks the largest single increase in pay for Mayo employees in more than two decades — and comes amid a period of dual economic challenges of high inflation and a tight labor market.

In a letter to staff, Mayo CEO Gianrico Farrugia and other officials acknowledged the uncertainty around the economy, but said, “our leadership team has made the decision to make a further investment in our extraordinary staff — because there is no Mayo Clinic without you.”

The 2023 increases follow 4 percent pay raises for staff in 2022. Mayo, the state’s largest private employer, has about 40,000 employees in Rochester.
