Tonic Juice Bar says it won't survive the shutdown

Tonic Juice Bar will not re-open following the statewide shutdown, its owners announced Friday. The business had been serving up nourishing smoothies and sandwiches out of its Second Street storefront since 2013.

“These unexpected circumstances have unfortunately set us back,” the business wrote to Facebook. “And, reopening is not an option.”

Tonic, which a few years ago was named the ‘best juice bar in Minnesota,’ had been a local favorite among patients and staff at St. Marys Hospital.

The concept was the creation of Nicci Sylvester, a local chef who up until her death in 2018 was regarded as a pioneer in the city’s culinary scene.

“Tonic is so grateful to every one of our customers who have supported us through the good times, tough times & have enjoyed Nicci's recipes throughout the past 6+ yrs,” says the Facebook post. “Words can't begin to express the gratitude for all of your patronage. Whether you've been a returning customer since 2013, or you just recently made a stop into Tonic, we appreciate you very much!”
