Forum set for county attorney candidates

Forum set for county attorney candidates

The volunteer-led Olmsted County Bar Association will host a debate later this month for the two candidates running for Olmsted County Attorney.

Senior Assistant County Attorney Geoff Hjerleid is challenging incumbent Mark Ostrem. This election marks the first contested race for county attorney since 2008, when Ostrem first won the seat.

Michelle Dobson, president of the bar association, said the group is excited both candidates have committed their time to participate in the forum.

“It’s easy for a county attorney race to be overshadowed by some of the partisan and city elections, but the County Attorney’s Office plays a crucial role in preserving the safety and well-being of our community,” said Dobson. “We think the [Olmsted County Bar Association] can help get the word out so that people can make an informed vote.”

The forum will take place September 27, 6:30 p.m., at 125 Live in Rochester. The event will be moderated by Senior Judges Debra A. Jacobson and Joseph F. Wieners. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

Proposed questions for the candidates can be submitted in advance to OlmstedCountyBarAssociation@gmail.com. You can remain anonymous.
