Timberwolves considering Rochester for site of minor league team
We know the team would play at the Mayo Civic Center's Taylor Arena. However, additional details about the proposal have not been released.
The sports commission sent in the bid at the request of the Timberwolves organization. The team is also said to be considering multiple other cities, though it has not released the names of any specific sites.
D-League teams are one step below the NBA, meaning players could be called up from Rochester on short notice. The Timberwolves are one of just a handful of teams in the league without an exclusive minor league affiliate.
Ed Hruska, executive director of the sports commission, has spoken favorably of a proposal to build a new sports arena in town. Any potential for a new facility would make Rochester a more attractive option for a D-League team.
The Timberwolves organization has not released a timetable for making a decision on a site for an affiliate team. The pro team plays its home games at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
