Only a drill! Disaster training scheduled for Thursday at the airport
Emergency responders from across the region will conduct training exercises Thursday at the Rochester International Airport.
Crews will test their response to an aircraft disaster from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In addition to emergency personnel, the drill will also involve airport employees and staff from both Mayo Clinic Health System and Olmsted Medical Center. All passenger airports in the U.S. are required to complete a full-scale exercise like this once every three years.
"The purpose of these drills is to evaluate and strengthen an airport's operational capability and its emergency management system," according to a news release.
For the first time, crews will test technology that allows operators to reach the public through traditional and wireless devices with multiple languages.
