(THE MED CITY BEAT) - Rochester has the nation's third strongest job market, according to a new report by the jobs website ZipRecruiter.

The site calculated the best job markets using unemployment numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as well as internal data. Rochester's unemployment rate was 3.1 percent in December, well below the national average of 5.6 percent.

"Home of the world-renowned Mayo Clinic, Rochester’s economic cornerstone is the essentially recession-proof healthcare sector, and recent population growth has further fueled its impressive job creation rate, especially in the service industry," notes the website.

Lincoln, Neb. and Fargo, N.D. were the only two cities to score higher than Rochester. Minneapolis finished 10th, the highest ranking among any large cities in the U.S.

Other recent reports have given Rochester high marks for both quality of life and affordability.
