Eight local projects included in Gov. Dayton's transportation plan
(THE MED CITY BEAT) - Two top Dayton administration officials — Lt. Governor Tina Smith and MnDOT Commissioner Charles Zelle — visited Rochester this week to promote the governor's $11 billion transportation proposal.
The plan would provide up to $75 million over the next ten years for key road and bridge improvements in Rochester and Olmsted County, according to the administration.
Here's a list of the eight local projects included in the governor's proposal (and no, the Zip Rail is not included):
The proposal would improve nearly 50 miles of road in Olmsted County. It also calls for major improvements to the Highway 52 corridor from the Twin Cities to Rochester, including the repair or replacement of three bridges in the county.
“Each year, more than 2 million people travel along Minnesota’s roads, bridges, and transit networks to visit Rochester,” said Smith. “The plan that Governor Dayton and I are proposing would provide the resources necessary to build a modern transportation system – driving continued business and job growth, and enhancing the quality of life enjoyed by all Minnesotans.”
If the governor’s proposal becomes law, construction could begin on these projects within the next 3 to 6 years.
