Report: Rochester not only a great place to live, but also affordable
But its editors point out that many of the other cities that placed high overall were a bit on the "pricey side." So they decided to create another ranking that factors in both quality of life and affordability.
"We didn’t set out to find cities where you can live on the bare minimum," the website notes. "Instead, these 10 cities are less expensive than most but still great places to live by all of our usual metrics."
The website points out that Rochester's median household income is above $60,000, which puts most residents in "easy reach" of the city's average-priced home market.
The top 10 includes seven Midwest cities, including Appleton, Wis. and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Round Rock, Texas finished first on the list.
